Still Dad is an iPhone app for separated fathers. This policy covers what you keep in it, where copies of that can end up, and what we learn from Apple and from your emails.

Who we are

Still Dad is made by Rightech Ltd (“we”, “us”). We’re responsible for the personal data described here. If you have a question about it, write to hi@stilldad.me.

What you keep in Still Dad

Your children’s profiles and the details you add to them, your moments, private letters, next-time reminders, Let it out writing, the log and your repeating schedule are saved in the app on your iPhone, with the photos, video and audio you add. Photos, video and audio are stored with iOS’s complete data protection, which keeps them unreadable while your iPhone is locked.

There’s no Still Dad account and no Still Dad server. The app has no code that sends what you keep to us or to anyone else. We can’t see it, and we can’t recover it for you.

You can send things out of the app yourself. If you share the log or a guide, the iPhone share sheet sends it where you pick. If you export a backup, you choose where the file goes.

Copies outside the app

Copies of what you keep can exist outside Still Dad.

  • iPhone backups. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or to a computer, those backups can include Still Dad’s data. They’re kept by Apple or on your computer, not by us.
  • Exported backups. In Settings, Still Dad can save everything in one .stilldadbackup file: your child profiles, moments, private letters, next-time reminders, kept Let it out writing, the log and your repeating schedule, with their photos, video and audio. Unfinished drafts are left out. The file isn’t password protected, so anyone who has it can read it. If you save it to a cloud service, that service looks after it.

Deleting something in Still Dad doesn’t delete copies already in an iPhone backup or an exported file.

App lock

App lock is optional and off until you turn it on. It uses Face ID, Touch ID or your iPhone’s passcode. iOS checks them, and Still Dad never sees your face, fingerprint or passcode. Anyone who knows your passcode can unlock the app. App lock doesn’t encrypt or protect an exported backup.

Permissions and reminders

Still Dad asks for access the first time you use something that needs it. You can change your answer at any time in iPhone Settings.

  • Camera and microphone, to take photos, video and audio for a moment.
  • Photos, only if you turn on photo suggestions. When you add photos to a moment yourself, Apple’s photo picker gives Still Dad only the photos you choose.
  • Face ID, to unlock the app if you turn on app lock.
  • Notifications, if you turn on handover reminders.

Handover reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. Some include your children’s names, such as “Last night with Ella”, so they can show on your Lock Screen. You can hide notification previews in iPhone Settings, or turn the reminders off in Still Dad.

Photo suggestions

Photo suggestions are off until you turn them on. When they’re on, Still Dad looks at photos taken in the past week, but not screenshots or videos, to see whether a child is in them. This happens on your iPhone, using the image recognition built into iOS. Faces aren’t recognised. Only photos already on your iPhone are looked at, and none are downloaded from iCloud.

For each photo, Still Dad keeps only its identifier, its date and whether a child was found, for a week or until you turn suggestions off. None of this goes into an exported backup. When you start a moment from suggested photos, compact copies are kept in the moment and your originals stay in Photos, unchanged.

The widget

The Home Screen widget gets nothing from Still Dad until you turn on widget sharing. Then it gets only your repeating pattern and its starting date: no names, writing, photos, audio or log entries. Turning on app lock turns widget sharing off.

What Apple tells us

Still Dad is sold through the App Store, and Apple takes the payment. Apple doesn’t give us your name, email address or payment details. It gives us sales and subscription figures, such as how many people subscribe in each country, without saying who they are. Your iPhone confirms your subscription with Apple directly.

If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in iPhone Settings, Apple also sends us crash reports and usage figures that don’t identify you. We use them to find and fix problems. Still Dad has no analytics, advertising or tracking of its own.

If you test Still Dad through TestFlight, Apple shares what a test needs: the name and email address you were invited with, which builds you install, crash reports and any feedback you send. We use them only to run the test.

Apple’s own use of your data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

When you write to us

If you email hi@stilldad.me, we get your email address and what you write. We use them to reply, and to tell you when Still Dad is ready if you asked us to. We don’t sell them, or share them with anyone apart from the provider that hosts our email. You can ask us to stop writing to you, or to delete your emails, at any time.

This website

This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or tracking, and it doesn’t load anything from other sites. The company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure. Links to other sites, such as Find A Helpline, take you to sites with their own privacy policies.

Children

Still Dad is for adults. You may write about your children in it, and that writing is handled like everything else here. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children. If you think a child has written to us, tell us and we’ll delete it.

Your rights

You control what you keep in Still Dad. You can read, export, change or delete it in the app, and deleting the app deletes its data from your iPhone, though not from existing backups.

For what we hold, such as your emails, you can ask for a copy, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to hi@stilldad.me and we’ll reply within a month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK or the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya.

Changes to this policy

We’ll post any change to this policy here and update the date at the top. If a change affects the things you keep in the app, the app update that brings it will say so first.
